As a technical rescue teacher for IFAW and its Academy of Rescue and Conservation (ARC), I’ve been lucky to assist practice a whole lot of catastrophe responders during the last 12 years. Bringing technical animal rescue expertise to those devoted people and tailoring the trainings to their very own distinctive conditions and skills helps them act safely and effectively when rescuing and sheltering animals throughout disasters. 

Encouraging preparedness 

Earlier this month, I used to be lucky to journey to Lake Taal within the Philippines to assist with a two-day coaching developed by IFAW’s Southeast Asia Reduction Community Coordinator, Might Felix-Razon. The Animals in Disasters coaching was requested by the Metropolis of Muntinlupa, and members included members of eight separate skilled first responder groups, one volunteer responder staff, the Metropolis Veterinarian, and key personnel from the Division of Catastrophe Resilience Administration (DDRM). 

IFAW’s ARC performed an essential function on this hybrid-style coaching.
